Representative
Bobby Rush of Illinois -- Barack Obama's home state -- has introduced
a dream bill for anti-gun politicians. It basically incorporates
every anti-gun measure short of a full ban in one bill. It's called
H.R.
45.
H.R. 45 requires
all firearm owners to be licensed, ex-post facto. It creates a
national database of firearms and firearm owners. It prevents
people from selling any firearm without government involvement.
It requires that all firearms in the home be locked up at all
times. Allows the government to subject gun owners to psychological
evaluation. Violators of the law face up to 2-5 years in prison.
The problem
with licensing
The Second Amendment is outlined in the Bill of Rights of the
U.S. Constitution. These rights are considered to be endowed by
our Creator and apply to all U.S. citizens. A license is issued
by the government and can be revoked based on any number of arbitrary
conditions. Therefore, a license applies to a privilege.
Requiring gun owners to be licensed revokes both our Second and
Fourth (privacy) Amendment rights and turns them into privileges
that the government can revoke at any time.
Federal
database
We all know that a certain number of government officials want
to ban and confiscate firearms all together. A national database
of gun owners including a list of their firearms, their SSN, fingerprints,
current and past addresses, a psychological evaluation, and possibly
all medical records would further assist a tyrannical government.
Law won't
reduce crime
It's absurd to think that criminals will run down to the police
station, submit all of their private information and fingerprints
to the police before obtaining their firearms. Obviously they
will not. Government agencies are exempt from H.R. 45. Therefore,
the only people who will have to endure all of the harrassment
of H.R. 45 are people who are not committing crimes.
Crime
likely to increase
Prison overcrowding, combined with a lack of funds, means
that many prisoners will be released early. The recidivism rate
of felons averages around 70%.
This nation's
open border policy also allows foreign criminals to enter the
country at will. This is evidenced by the country's increasing
gang population. In fact, Phoenix,
Arizona is now the #2 kidnapping capital of the world. Mexico
City ranks first.
Add to that,
Jihad in America and increasing job losses and you've got a recipe
for an increased crime rate.
Bad political
move
Only a politician from Illinois (or possibly California and
New York) could introduce such a bill with any seriousness. Clearly
the residents of Texas, Alaska, Idaho, South Carolina, and most
of the rest of the country could not imagine having to comply
with such an outrageous, anti-gun law. Judging from some of the
other decisions Congress has made lately, I wouldn't dismiss this
one too quickly.
