Gun
banners are like the Terminator. They absolutely will not stop,
ever, until you are disarmed.
Although
you might not hear much about it in the mainstream media, the
disarmament crowd is working as avidly as ever to render ordinary
Americans defenseless against violent criminals. Considering the
backlash that resulted from extensive media coverage by Rosie
O'Donnell and others in years past, one might be inclined to think
that today's current lack of coverage is by design. The less Americans
know about their deteriorating rights, the better.
If gun-banners
are successful in their endeavors, the people who will be hit
the hardest are those that the gun-banners purport to represent.
Primarily, women and children. Of course, the elderly, the handicapped,
and low-income persons will also be harshly affected as firearms
become more expensive and increasingly harder to get.
The disarmament
crowd seems to be focusing on five primary areas so far this year.
- "Assault
Weapons" - Gun-banners seek to continue and expand the
ban on semi-automatic rifles. Currently, only those with certain
cosmetic features, bearing no effect on performance, are banned
at the federal level. That ban is set to expire this September
barring any extension by the federal government. Gun-banners
will work to increase the ban to include ALL semi-automatic
rifles. And they will go from state to state if the federal
ban expires. Gun-banners love to use the term "assault
weapon" to apply to almost anything that fires a projectile.
Before you know it, squirt guns and slingshots will be dubbed,
"assault weapons".
- Privacy
- Currently, information collected by a prospective firearm
purchaser is confidential and is to be destroyed almost immediately
after passing a background check. The disarmament crowd wants
to keep that information and build a database on you. They want
all of your personal information and your fingerprints fed into
a database for "safety" purposes.
- Ballistics
- Another database. Gun-banners want to spend all the money
in the world to create this gigantic database of firearm ballistics.
Unfortunately, this grandiose plan is useless in that the barrel
of a gun can be easily modified thereby changing the ballistic
fingerprint. Furthermore, this technology could jeopardize the
liberty of innocent Americans whose firearms were stolen.
- Taxes
- You know how much some politicians love to raise taxes! Gun-banning
politicians have come up with a scheme to charge ten cents per
round of ammunition. Politicians plan to spend the money at
trauma centers -- as if law-abiding gun owners are responsible
for the overcrowding in our nation's emergency rooms.
- .50 Caliber
Ban - To our knowledge, there is not one recorded incident anywhere
in the United States of a crime being committed with a .50 caliber
rifle. These rifles weigh approximately 30-45 pounds, average
six feet in length, and cost thousands of dollars. Hardly, an
ideal firearm for a criminal, but the gun-banners want to prevent
YOU from having one.
Despite the
fact that the entire gun-ban movement is based on false data,
misconceptions, lies, and just plain bad policy, the disarmament
crowd continues to be a viable threat to our nation's liberty
and security. They are active and have taken their plans underground
for the time being. In a way, that makes them even more dangerous.
Anyone who does not wish to see the Third Reich reincarnated in
this country, should remain vigiliant and vocal about the dangers
of disarmament.
